Description
In almost a half century of collecting, I have never seen one of these before and I am not quite sure what to call it. It is a cast iron pipe electrical four outlet stand that measures 31 1/2" tall, the base is 10" wide with a wicked art deco look to it. The outlet on the top is double sided with original bell safety NO-SHOK two prong receptacles. There is a male bakelite plug that gets plugged in the wall outlet.Unusual 1920s standing Art Deco cast iron four outlet extension cord early electrical, amazing crackle finish metal, double-sided sockets, Art Deco designed cast iron base. Very good vintage condition with evidence of age and use.
The stand piping is black with a gold/brass finish. (all original).
On the underside of the base it says "Allied Mercantile Co. Newark NJ cat. No. 750 made in USA". It has been checked completely and works perfectly as designed.
This unusual piece will make quite an addition to your vintage collection.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Art Deco, also called style moderne, movement in the decorative arts and architecture that originated in the 1920s and developed into a major style in western Europe and the United States during the 1930s. Its name was derived from the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, where the style was first exhibited. Art Deco design represented modernism turned into fashion. Its products included both individually crafted luxury items and mass-produced wares, but, in either case, the intention was to create a sleek and antitraditional elegance that symbolized wealth and sophistication.
